Without Feeling Sleazy or Slimy

(All while having 24/7 support from a community of like-minded musicians and top-notch training at your fingertips.)

If you’re a classical musician or small ensemble looking to up your impact and income, then you probably already know the impact that effective marketing, branding and publicity could have on your life and career.

No matter if you’re just getting started or are already established, authentic marketing adds fuel to the fire, creating massive impact for your brand.

But where do I even start?!

To get media coverage and visibility through marketing, you really only have three options:

Option #1:

Hire a manager or pay a publicist/PR firm top dollar to do it for you.

Option #2:

DIY it alone and waste lots of time…or worse, accidently burn a bridge or two.

Option #3:

DIY it with step-by-step, proven strategies, a community of like-minded musicians and an arts marketing pro in your back pocket.

If option #3 sounds good to you, you’ve come to the right place!

You’ve realized that the “starving artist” mentality is not sustainable.

You’ve tried to go it alone. And endless “how to…” Google searches have gotten you nowhere.

You might be overwhelmed by this whole “marketing thing,” but I know you’re not the type to throw in the towel and give up on your music career. (For goodness sakes – you’ve committed over half your life to make it a reality!)

Making your music career work is non-negotiable, and you’re ready to go all in to up-level your career in a sustainable way to increase your impact AND income.

But, you’re not “selling out.” You just want to make a decent living doing work you love.

And you don’t want to walk this path alone.

Is that really too much to ask??? No, my friend. No, it’s not.

You deserve better than holding out for the “next big audition”…or having to take a side-job because the students, audiences and customers just aren’t rolling in like you thought they would.

Well, my friend, I have good news!

It’s YOUR turn to step into a career that’s full of passioncreativity and freedom.

You absolutely can make a living as a musician, and you don’t have to go this journey alone.

In case we haven’t met, my name is Clair Condit, and I’m a marketing strategist for classical musicians who are ready to up their impact and income. After getting my degrees in oboe performance and business from Indiana University, I started my career in marketing and PR for the Houston Symphony. Since then, I’ve worked with top Fortune 500 companies to develop strategic communications campaigns that drive engagement and get results.

Why DIY your marketing?

Hiring a publicist could cost you thousands, and even then, as an emerging artist, you’d be competing with other musicians and ensembles on that publicist’s roster for the top media opportunities.

And waiting until you’re represented by management? Well, don’t be surprised when your management team wants YOU to do most of the marketing work yourself anyway.

Smart musicians know that they need to manage their careers with the same artistry and attention to detail that they use in their musicianship. And, I have a feeling you’re one of those smart musicians! 😉

The Marketed Musician Studio is inspired by the studios where we grew and developed as musicians in college and conservatory environments.

Except, unlike a studio for your instrument or voice…it’s like a studio for your business! And instead of being your professor, I’ll be your partner, equipping you with everything you need to market yourself, build your business and live your dreams.

The Marketed Musician Studio is a place where you can get top-notch training and guidance, with the icing on the cake being a supportive community of like-minded musicians.

Here’s what you’ll get when you join The Marketed Musician Studio:

This is where you can learn what you need, when you need it. You’ll get instant access to over 6 and a half hours of step-by-step training videos – all with worksheets, templates and resources to help you turn your learning into action that gets results.

The lessons are broken down into themed courses, but you’ll also get access to The Marketed Musician Success Roadmap (shown below with links to the lessons removed). The Success Roadmap helps you take action on the right things at the right time.

Check it out below…

The planning stage is all about gaining clarity on your brand and the goals of your business. It’s important to get these details clear internally before you start creating the external components of your marketing strategy.

The aim of this stage is to have a clear plan for what you want to create in your business so that you can move forward with confidence to strategically build your brand.

Dream BIG

Do you know what you want to create in your career? If you’re hesitant to answer or a little fuzzy on what success looks like to you, this introspective lesson will help you dream big to uncover the essential elements of your brand.

What is Marketing?

Spoiler alert! Marketing is all about connecting and communicating value. Watch this quick introductory lesson to learn more about what marketing is and how the concept will play out in your overall marketing strategy.

Understand Your Audience

It’s crucial to understand your audience. Who are they? Where do they hang out? What do they need? What do they want? When you have an understanding of your audience, you can then cater your product – and how you market it – to be the answer to your audience’s needs and wants. This lesson will help you understand your audience.

Create Your Product

In order to have a business, you need to have something to sell. This can take the form of concerts, teaching, physical products, services…or anything else you can dream up! This lesson helps you build on what you know about your audience to create products that they (and you!) will love.

Set Your Prices

Setting prices can sometimes feel like a shot in the dark! But this lesson helps shine a light on the topic so you can establish a healthy mindset around earning money and do the math with practical strategies to help set your prices.

The creating stage is where you turn the building blocks of your plan into action to create marketing materials like your brand style guide, logo and website. At this point, you know exactly what you do and who you serve. Now it’s time to create the visual and written manifestation of your brand.

The aim of this stage is to have a completed website that’s clear, functions well and is ready to be launched to the world.

Write Your Bio

Your bio has the power to draw people in, making an instant connection that leaves them wanting more. But so many classical musician bios end up sounding exactly the same. If you haven’t already taken the 5-Day Compelling Bio Challenge (or if you want to give your bio another refresh!), click here to be taken through the three-step process to write your bio.

Colors, Fonts and Images – Oh My!

Branding is more than visuals, but a cohesive visual identity is key to creating a compelling brand that’s consistent across all of your marketing channels. Watch this lesson to make decisions about your brand’s visual identity.

Then watch this lesson to learn how to use Canva to create compelling images for the web.

Create Your Logo

You’ve decided on your colors and fonts. Now it’s time to create your logo! You could hire this out to a freelancer. You could also use Canva to help get the creative juices flowing. But my favorite way to create a DIY logo (without a subscription to or learning how to use Adobe Photoshop) is by using PowerPoint (or Apple Pages or Google Slides). Click here to learn how to create your logo in PowerPoint.

Do a Website Audit

If you already have a website, is it acting like your BEST salesperson? If not, then this lesson will give you a framework to audit your current site so that it’s working FOR you instead of AGAINST you. Be sure to watch this lesson even if you don’t already have a website since it’ll show you how to set up a domain name and set you up with a solid foundation before starting your site.

Plan and Write Your Website

Creating a website from scratch can feel like staring at a blank canvas with no clue what you want to paint. But with a little bit of strategy and structure, you’ll be up and running in no time! This lesson walks you through how to create a sitemap for your pages and gives you the key points to write about on each page – with extra writing tips included!

Build Your Website

You’re a man (or woman!) with a plan! And now it’s time to take your written website pages and make them a reality on the good ol’ World Wide Web! Get stared by choosing which platform you’ll use in this informative lesson.

Then learn about additional tech add-ons you can use to do things like host your electronic press kit and manage your private teaching studio in this lesson. You’ll also get a quick tutorial of how to use Google Analytics to track and measure you’re site’s stats. (It’s not that tricky – I promise!)

Once your website is up and running, it’s time to focus on driving people to your website so you can turn them into raving fans (AKA paying audiences, customers, students and people who want to hire you for gigs)! This is the stage where you’ll really start building momentum to grow your impact AND income! And since a key success factor of any marketing plan is consistency, this stage is never actually “finished.” You’ll want to keep revisiting and building on these lessons over time.

The aim of this stage is for you to be able to grow your business as a musician by confidently marketing yourself online, offline and in the media.

Get a Grip on Your Marketing Channels

Like any major decision in life, it never hurts to know your options. This quick intro lesson walks you through the types of marketing channels that exist out there in the world + how to choose the best channels for your business.

Create a Social Media Strategy

Social media is certainly fun to hang out on and keep up with that long lost friend you haven’t talked to in 7 years, but have you thought about how to use it to promote your business? This lesson takes a deep dive into why social media matters, how to find out which social media platforms are best for your audience and then how to utilize each social media outlet to engage with your audience. (You’ll want to set aside a full hour to go through this in-depth lesson!)

Start Email Marketing

When it comes to getting a return on your investment, email consistently delivers the best results. And in this lesson, we’re going to map out your email marketing strategy so you can start building your email list. You’ll also get answers to the tough questions around what to write, how often to send emails and the tech options you have to bring your email marketing strategy to life.

Get Visible on Blogs and Beyond

Online marketing, and really marketing in general, works best when you go where your audience is already hanging out. This lesson teaches you how to find and get featured on blogs and online news outlets that reach your target audience. You’ll even get take-and-tweak pitch templates you can use to get featured in the media!

Master In-Person Networking

In this lesson, we’re going to dive into the offline, or in-person, marketing tactics that you can use to grow your business, audience and connections. We’ll start off with five tips for successful networking. Then, we’ll cover a variety of offline tactics specifically for teachers and performers.

Get Media Coverage

What could news articles, radio interviews, TV segments and press quotes mean for your career? Bigger opportunities, increased reputation, greater visibility – and that’s only the beginning! When you’re ready to go all in as your own publicist (and yes, you CAN act as your own publicist), work through this series of five action-packed lessons to add extra media buzz around your next big project or announcement! The lessons are:

  • Preparing for Media Coverage
  • Crafting Your Pitch
  • Writing Your Press Release and Media Alert
  • Pitching and How to Interview like a Pro
  • Maintaining Relationships with the Media and Tracking Your Media Coverage

Solidify Your Marketing Cadence

Enough with the “what now??!” freak out moments when it comes time to deciding on your marketing strategy! In this lesson, you’ll create a practical and sustainable marketing cadence that supports everything you do.

Master Your Editorial Calendar

Wouldn’t it be awesome if you had a plan for what you’re going to write/post/video/etc. about for the next week, month, or even year?! In this lesson, we’re going to take what you created with your marketing cadence and map it out into an editorial calendar, which will help you keep track of and plan out your content marketing.

Connect and collaborate with other like-minded musicians. The Facebook group is the place to get feedback, bounce ideas off of others, ask questions and share your successes in a safe and supportive environment.

This exclusive community is a space where we can do life together as musician entrepreneurs. I’m active in the group daily Monday through Saturday and am here to help you each step of the way with loving encouragement or tough love – whichever you need most!

Just like you preformed in master classes with your music teacher, this is your opportunity to step to the front of the {virtual} classroom. All members have the opportunity to sign up for time in a hot seat, where we do a 1-on-1 deep dive into your marketing plans, publicity strategies and branding. And at the end of each call, we open it up for general Q&A and discussion. This is the place to bring your most pressing project and learn from the experiences of others.

To make the virtual classroom less “virtual,” we use Zoom video conferencing, where we can see your shining face and hear each other’s voices. Of course, if you’re not comfortable sharing your screen or audio, you can type in your questions, as well.

Can’t make a call? No worries! Each call will be recorded and uploaded to The Studio members-only training site the following day.

But that’s not all…

As a bonus, when you join The Studio, you’ll get the About Page Workbook!

Did you know that About pages are one of the most visited pages on any given website? Yet most musicians often overlook their About page, missing a key opportunity to tell their strategic story.

If your website’s About page feels awkward, is just a landing page for your bio or isn’t compelling readers to take action to work with you, then this DIY Write Your About Page workbook is for you!

This 33-page PDF workbook will take you step-by-step through my proprietary S.M.A.R.T About Page™ framework.

Kind Words from Studio Members

The Marketed Musician courses are very thorough and thought provoking. It has encouraged me to think about designing my career, by creating a unique product and a marketing plan. Through taking these courses, I have been able to design my private studio and performance brand, while finishing graduate school. Within a few months, I will have a Masters Degree, and a thorough marketing and business plan to start my career. By asking compelling questions, Clair Condit helps you think outside the box and fully realize the brand that you want to create.

You’re a part of something good! Since the moment when The Marketed Musician was an idea in the back of my mind, I knew that giving back would be a key piece of my business plan, which is why 10% of all Studio membership dues will be donated to Instruments of Joy, a non-profit that equips aspiring musicians in the developing world with quality musical instruments.

After you’ve joined, you’ll receive a welcome email with everything you need to get started, including how to set up your username and password so you can dive right into the content and a link to join the exclusive Facebook community.

Why is joining The Studio better than going it alone?

Throughout your college education, you were part of a studio for your instrument or vocal studies.

You met as a group with your professor and peers where you performed in front of the group and saw first-hand how iron sharpens iron when a group of peers with a similar goal share constructive feedback, encouragement and foster creative risk-taking.

Think of The Marketed Musician Studio as a studio for your business with all the accountability, support and coaching you’d expect to receive in a music studio.

Who is The Marketed Musician Studio for?

Whether you’re still in music school and want to ensure you start your career on solid footing or if you’re an established musician or ensemble who wants to be more intentional to increase your visibility, The Marketed Musician Studio is an excellent place for you to learn, get feedback on your ideas and take action to watch your business and career grow. The Studio is designed primarily for individual classical musicians and small ensembles who teach, perform and organize special projects. But staff members of non-profit arts organizations can also learn valuable marketing strategies in The Studio to bring back to their organization.

Will I get any 1-on-1 interaction with Clair?

YES! I’m active in the Facebook group on a daily basis (Mon. through Sat.) to provide feedback, answers to your questions and spark inspiration.

Once a month, in our Marketing Masterclass, you’ll have the opportunity to sign up for a “hot seat,” where we’ll have 15 minutes of focused discussion around your specific project. During the hot seats, I’ll give feedback on publicity plans, press releases, website reviews, marketing strategies…you name it!

Sounds great…but, do I have the time?

Between teaching, practicing and running your life/business as a musician, you’re busy! And I get that. Which is why all training videos are classical-music-specific, only-what-you-need-to-know-without-the-extra-fluff, highly-focused-and-productive with worksheets, checklists and templates designed to help you apply what you’ve learned and implement right away.

And because you get instant access to the community and all of the course materials when you join, you can go through the material on your own time (whether that’s binge watching Netfilx-style in your PJs or pacing yourself with what you need, when you need it most).

Does it matter where I live?

Nope. As long as you have access to the internet, you are good to go!

Are refunds available?

Because of the in-depth 1-on-1 support components and virtual nature of the training content that is available to you 24/7, there are no refunds available for The Marketed Musician Studio. While we would hate to see you go, if you are dissatisfied with your purchase for any reason, you will be able to cancel any future payments. To cancel, all you need to do is login to The Studio and click on “Account,” where you can cancel your account at any time. After cancelling, please note that your ability to log into the member site will end after your current membership period is completed. And if you have any problems at all with managing your account, you can email me at clair {at} themarketedmusician {dot} com.

Our whole ensemble wants to join. How does that work?

Each membership is tied to an individual email address, so each member would need their own account to access the training materials. There are two ways for ensembles to get the most out of membership in The Studio:

  • Assign one member of your ensemble to be the point person for your marketing, and only that person will have a membership with access to the training and community support.
  • If 3 or more members of your ensemble want to join together, please contact me at clair {at} themarketedmusician {dot} com for information about discounted group rates. I’d be happy to help you out. 🙂

What if I have a question that hasn’t been answered here?

If you have any questions that haven’t been answered here on this page, feel free to email me at clair {at} themarketedmusician {dot} com with any question you might have about joining The Marketed Musician Studio. I look forward to welcoming you into The Studio!
